To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Disney released an animated musical fantasy film titled “Wish”. The movie explores how the dreaming star, which so many Disney characters have wished upon, came to be. Here is everything we know about Disney’s Wish!
Disney’s Wish Movie Release Date
Disney’s Wish was released in theaters on November 22, 2023.
We can expect the movie to be available to stream on Disney+ months after its theatrical run.
Disney’s Wish Movie Cast & Characters
The 17-year-old heroine Asha is voiced by Oscar winner Ariana Debose (West Side Story, The Prom).
Chris Pine (Wonder Woman, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) voices the movie’s villain, King Magnifico. Alan Tudyk (Wreck-It-Ralph, Encanto) voices Valentino, Asha’s pet goat.
Other cast members of Wish include:
- Angelique Cabral (Life in Pieces, Enlisted) as Queen Amaya, the wife of King Magnifico.
- Victor Garber (Titanic, DC's Legends of Tomorrow) as Sabino, Asha’s 100-year-old grandfather, who is patiently waiting for his wish to be granted.
- Natasha Rothwell (The White Lotus) as Sakina, Asha’s mother.
- Jennifer Kumiyama (The Sessions) as Dahlia, Asha’s dearest friend, and an accomplished baker.
- Evan Peters (American Horror Story, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) as Simon, a strong guy with a big heart.
- Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows, Blue Beetle) as Gabo, a boy who may be cynical, but has a heart of gold.
- Ramy Youssef (Ramy, Poor Things) as Safi, a boy who is plagued by allergies.
- Niko Vargas (Craig of the Creek) as Hal, Asha’s joyful friend.
- Della Saba (Physical, Ralph Breaks the Internet) as Bazeema, a girl who is shy and full of surprises.
- Jon Rudnitsky (Summer Days, Summer Nights, Home Again) as Dario, Asha’s rosy-cheeked, wiggly-eared friend.

Disney’s Wish Movie Plot
Wish is set in the magical kingdom of Rosas, known as the kingdom of wishes. It tells the story of Asha, an “optimist with a sharp wit” who cares about her community.
She senses a darkness in her kingdom that no one else does, so she turns to the sky and makes a wish.
An actual star then falls from the sky. The star, who is named Star, has magical powers to grant wishes. Together, Asha and Star must face off with King Magnifico to save her community.
The synopsis of Wish, as provided by Disney, reads:
“In Wish, Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star.
Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.”

Disney’s Wish Movie Trailer
Disney released two trailers for Wish. The teaser trailer for Wish was released on April 27, 2023.
It gave a glimpse of the magical kingdom of Rosas and introduced the protagonist Asha, the antagonist King Magnifico, Asha’s pet goat Valentino, and Star.
It also featured a snippet of the song “This Wish”, performed by Ariana DeBose. You can watch the teaser trailer below:
