Disney+ Reveals the Oddest New Edit to Han Solo and Greedo Scene in Star Wars

Disney just recently launched Disney+ this week and together with the site comes one of the weirdest Star Wars: A New Hope edits yet.

Star Wars fans have begun inspecting the Star Wars films that Disney has added to the roster of movies that have been made available on Disney+, and to the surprise of many, there's a new edit to the Mos Eisley cantina sequence where Han Solo (Harrison Ford) faces Greedo. The sequence has long since sparked debate among fans wondering whether Han really shot first.

Now, a new edit of the sequence seems to add to the controversy.

In the version of A New Hope that's been made available on Disney+, fans can see Han and Greedo facing each other in the Mos Eisley Cantina. Right before he gets shot by everyone's favorite smuggler, Greedo shouts out "Maclunkey!" an odd word that's never been in the original version of A New Hope before.

Not only that, but it seems like there's been a new explosion added to the sequence as well, covering a transition from the characters shooting to Greedo hitting the table straight up.

Responding to an inquiry by The Verge, a representative from Lucasfilm confirms that these changes were made by George Lucas before Star Wars was acquired by Disney.

It doesn't sound that surprising to see George making further edits to A New Hope. The Star Wars creator has been known to tweak the original trilogy every now and then.

What do you think of "Maclunkey" though? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
