J.J. Abrams might have just completed Star Wars: Episode IX's principal photography, but now rumors say that Disney has decided to bring Star Wars creator George Lucas on board the project.
According to a new report by Express, Lucas has just been brought in during the final stages of Episode IX to polish the film's script and guide the filmmaker as he adds the finishing touches to the project. Word has it that the Mickey Mouse House wants to play it safe and make sure that the third and final sequel trilogy installment fits in with both the traditional and casual fans of the franchise.
Apparently, the studio is trying to avoid the same kind of controversy that Star Wars met when Lucasfilm released Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Sure, the film might have been a massive critical and commercial success, but it also ended up being one of the most divisive entries in the Skywalker saga. While there were those who enjoyed how the film added new elements to Star Wars lore, traditional Star Wars fans weren't all that accepting of The Last Jedi's attempts at subverting fan expectations.
Nor were they particularly pleased with how The Last Jedi turned Luke into a jaded old hermit on Ahch-To.
However, as contentious and as exciting it might sound to have Lucas on board Episode IX, fans ought to take this new report with a grain of salt. We can't trust everything that runs up and down the mill on the internet, now can we?
