Disney Discusses When Marvel Can Resume the Production of Movies and Series

The entertainment industry has certainly taken a hit from the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only have studios been forced to delay the release of major blockbuster movies like Mulan, No Time to Die, Black Widow, and Wonder Woman 1984, but it's also shut down the production of highly-anticipated films and television series.

Now, as the government tries to weigh the pros and cons of lifting the COVID-19 lockdowns, Disney opens up about the delayed production of its upcoming projects. Bob Chapek, the current CEO of the Walt Disney Company, just recently opened up about the production of upcoming Marvel films during a Disney investor quarterly call this week (via ComicBook.com).

"In terms of large scale production, we're gonna go through the same process as we do our theme parks…we're going to be responsible in terms of how we put our own employees and other filmmakers that are partners with us," Chapek told investors, "We've got no projections on exactly when we can do that."

Principal photography on Marvel movies like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all depends on the local government's decisions during this time of crisis. It may take some time before Marvel can begin production on its upcoming film and television projects.

Interestingly, Disney is planning to reopen its Shanghai park later this month with new precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus. The House of Mouse is planning to open the park at a limited capacity so that people can follow social distancing. Disney workers in the Shanghai park are also being made to wear masks.

Marvel's next release, Black Widow, is set to premiere on November 6, 2020.
