Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might be one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year, however, last month, word came out that test screenings for Episode IX went terribly wrong with fans "storming out" of screening venues.
Speaking in an interview with Esquire to help promote his new Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams addresses these rumors. According to Abrams, these rumors are very much for from the truth because he and his team have yet to begin test screening the third and final entry in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy. The filmmaker had shown the film to a select few, however, there haven't been any test screenings for The Rise of Skywalker.
"Of course I've shown it at a friends and family screening, but we've never done like a test screening," Abrams told the entertainment news outlet.
We don't doubt Abrams at all. The rumors never really sounded that reliable in the first place because Abrams and his team had just recently completed work on The Rise of Skywalker. Test screenings late in November sounded a bit too soon.
There's a lot riding on The Rise of Skywalker. Not only is the film expected to put an end to Star Wars' sequel trilogy, but it's also expected to close the curtain on the Skywalker saga. Fans are expecting Episode IX to be big, and rightly so.
We can't wait to see how Rey (Daisy Ridley) deals with the return of Emperor Palpatine and we can't wait to see the final battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
