I think most of us can agree that Marvel Studios dropped the ball big time when they decided to present the Skrulls as sympathetic creatures in Captain Marvel. If you've been a longtime reader of the comics, you're very much aware that the shape-shifting humanoids are top-tier villains in the Marvel Universe so it came as a huge shocker when the studio pulled a creative swerve.
Now, it seems like the studio has finally come to its senses and the Skrulls are finally embracing their villainous side in Secret Invasion. The upcoming Disney+ series which is based on the critically-acclaimed 2008 comics storyline is centered on a group of Skrulls who have infiltrated the planet for years and pose a threat to mankind.
The show, top-billed by Samuel L. Jackson will see the MCU debut of Emilia Clarke whose character remains a huge mystery. Not even the official trailer offered hints regarding the character she plays although speculation has been running high since her casting was announced that she is playing the Skrull Queen. However, it looks like that isn't the case as the folks over at Disney themselves may have spoiled her true role.
The official Secret Invasion page on the GIF-sharing site Tenor lists the Star Wars and Game of Thrones actress as Abigail Brand, a character a lot of fans have been dying to see in the billion-dollar franchise. In the comics, Brand is the director of SWORD, a subdivision of SHIELD that made its debut in WandaVision that handles extraterrestrial threats.

Thankfully, Emilia is being given a protagonist role in the MCU but it'll be interesting to see if what we saw in the trailer is how she'll actually look in the series because she doesn't resemble her comic counterpart at all.
No official release date has been set for Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion but the series is expected to drop sometime in 2023.
