Director Taika Waititi Teases an Emotional Ending for Thor: Love and Thunder

Director Taika Waititi has completely reinvented the Thor franchise by transitioning the genre of the film from action-adventure into action-comedy. After Waititi stepped onto the Thor franchise with Thor: Ragnarok, it easily became one of the most comic MCU movies of all time, and fans are certainly looking forward to more hilarious adventures in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. However, it looks like Waititi's upcoming film would surprisingly explore more of the emotional aspects of the God of Thunder.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, director Taika Watiti sheds some light on what to anticipate for Thor: Love and Thunder’s ending. This time, it won't be a pure comedy like Thor: Ragnarok, as he revealed that he tried to incorporate 'a little more with drama' and hopes that the audience will laugh and cry.

“The end of this film is so cool, so satisfying and so unexpected for this character," Waititi said. "I’d like to exit before an audience says, ‘We’re sick of you'... But if we come up with an idea that’s surprising and new to an audience, I’m always open to the conversation.”

The director added, “I wanted to lean in a little more with the drama in this film, and with some of the more emotional aspects. In my films, I really love when people laugh and cry, and I don’t think people cried in Ragnarok.”

After Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok — which is regarded as the standout from the franchise due to its hilarious approach, it's promising to know that the director is set to explore more emotional themes for the next Thor film. However, if it's going to be emotional, this might mean that one character would face an unfortunate fate at the conclusion of the film.

We already know that Jane Foster would be struggling with cancer throughout the film, making her fate in jeopardy. For Hemsworth's side of things, the actor recently said in a previous interview that Thor: Love and Thunder might be his last Marvel film, but who really knows? Nevertheless, brace yourselves, and don't forget to bring some tissues before watching Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit the big screens on July 8.
