During her appearance in a Dreamland Pride Festival video on Sunday, June 8, Cyrus unexpectedly joined the hype surrounding Siwa’s relationship with Hughes.
While telling attendees to enjoy the Pride, she mentioned the Celebrity Big Brother UK star’s name.
“I haven’t been in [the closet] since sixth grade. Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you,” she said. “It shouldn’t be a month— it should be a year; it should be infinite. Alright, I’m coming back to get some pretzels and find Jojo Siwa and bring her back out.”
Though the crowd roared after hearing the singer-songwriter’s remark, not everyone actually liked it.

Many social media users took to X to share their thoughts on Cyrus’ quip.
User @PrincessKikiM98 recalled how Siwa supported and looked up to Cyrus, calling her the “nicest celebrity she’s ever met” and her “number one idol.”
So, seeing Cyrus making fun of Siwa’s new relationship with a man is said to be “very saddening.” They also described the “queer/bi erasure” during this Pride Month “terrible.”
In another post, they said they didn’t want to be a fan of the 32-year-old pop superstar after finding it not cool to make jokes at Siwa’s expense.
“It makes her seem kinda like a bully in that clip,” they continued. “Maybe the Swifties were right about Miley Cyrus all along.”
For starters, some Taylor Swift fans see Cyrus as someone who gives off “mean girl” energy.
@badmedlakarma added Cyrus was wrong and asked everyone to stop invalidating Siwa’s queerness.
“She should know better as an older queer woman herself & I can’t imagine how Jojo feels hearing this coming from her idol,” they said.
Like Siwa, Cyrus also had girlfriends, including Kaitlynn Carter and Stella Maxwell. She’s now dating Maxx Morando and they have been together since 2021.
When Did Jojo Siwa Come Out?
Siwa came out in 2021, telling People that she was “technically” pansexual. “My human is my human,” she said.
Since then, she has dated Kylie Prew, Katie Mills, Avery Cyrus, Dakayla Wilson, and Ebbs. In fact, she was still with Ebbs when she joined Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 24.
So, many were surprised that she started to get linked to Hughes. She even talked about her sexuality during a confessional, realizing she wasn’t a lesbian but queer.
“I think that’s really cool. I’m switching letters!” she continued.
After she finished the show and ended things with Ebbs at a wrap party, Siwa confirmed her relationship with Hughes.
“It’s not platonic anymore,” she told The Guardian. “I’m absolutely head over heels for him and he’s the same way.”
To clear things about her sexuality, Siwa still feels she’s “queer,” and she loves the person, not the label.
“There’s a lot of different sexual identities,” she added. “I think there’s nothing more beautiful than somebody discovering themselves.”
