Billy Zane is starring and producing the upcoming film Waltzing with Brando where he will play legendary Hollywood icon Marlon Brando.
You might be wondering how the actor's portrayal of the legend will play out and whether he does look like him in the film. Fortunately, based on the results, the resemblance is uncanny. Let's explore below.
What is Waltzing with Brando About?
Waltzing with Fishman is directed by Bill Fishman. It is based on the book Waltzing with Brando: Planning a Paradise in Tahiti by Bernard Judge.
The film, which primarily takes place between 1969 and 1974, focuses on Brando's preparations for his memorable performances in The Godfather and Last Tango in Paris.
Aside from Zane, it also stars Jon Heder, Tia Carrere, Richard Dreyfuss, Alaina Huffman, and Rob Corddry.
It will be making its world premiere at the Torino Film Festival in Turin, Italy this coming November 30 as their closing film.
Did Billy Zane Use Prosthetics in Playing Marlon Brando?
As you can see in the photos above, Zane has an uncanny resemblance to Brando. It's all thanks to the wonderful prosthetics work that was done by the makeup team.
In a 2019 interview, Zane opened up about his casting as Brando in the project and the prosthetic work that he was about to do for the portrayal of the role.
"He had very specific hair. So, designing that middle-aged Brando-in-Last–Tango kind of wispy, ’70s, receding, gray-blonde hair... I don’t have that! There are great wigmakers here and in Italy chomping at the bit to go there," he said.
"I used to wear a Caesar ‘do. I was one of the early adopters of that cut back in the day… that aesthetic certainly was a Roman-Brando cut. I’ll be designing that look. There will probably be a slight prosthetic attachment on the bridge of my nose just to get [his] bump exactly right. I’ve got one, but it’s slightly different."
Based on the photos, there is no doubt that their hard work on the prosthetics paid off as the makeup work to transform Zane into the legendary actor was exceptional.
