Detective Pikachu Makes Major Changes to Pokemon Battles

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu might have a number of great-looking Pokemon but it will also be different from the source material in a number of ways. Obviously, Ryme City is one of those things since the city doesn't exist in the games or the anime but it turns out that there will be other changes as well. However, it turns out that there will be a major change to Pokemon battles.

According to an article from Pokemon.com, Pokemon battles in Ryme City are illegal. That's right, someone actually started having humane thoughts in the world of Pokemon and has decided to make battles illegal. This should be a good thing but both the anime and games have tried convincing players that battling with your Pokemon strengthens your bond.

Turns out that there are shady underground arenas where trainers battle their Pokemon, like the one we saw in the trailer. How Pikachu ends up in this situation is going to be interesting and we can't wait to see the other Pokemon that will be fighting each other. Let's hope they don't get too hurt though; no one wants to see a dying Pokemon, you guys.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu will be coming out on May 10.
