Demon Slayer Earned Jaw-Dropping $9B in 2020 Alone

It has already been confirmed that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the biggest franchises in the world today. But just how big is it at this point? Demon Slayer has revealed its amazing earnings from 2020 which reached a jaw-dropping $9 billion, thanks to the success of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie - Mugen Train.

It's no secret that Demon Slayer has been breaking records since the manga was released in 2016. The anime was later dropped in 2019, making the franchise even bigger so it's no surprise that things got huge with the release of Mugen Train.

The Demon Slayer movie was a huge hit despite being released in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mugen Train became the highest-grossing film of 2020, earning $503 million worldwide. Still, that's just small change compared to what the franchise made in the same year.

So how much did Demon Slayer make in 2020? According to Toyokezai, the franchise brought in 1 Trillion Yen or $9 billion US, most of which came from Mugen Train. Some of the earnings also came from the physical release of the theme song Gurenge by LiSA as well as the manga.

This is just the beginning for Demon Slayer considering that the 2020 earnings do not include earnings from 2021. With Mugen Train having been released theatrically in the US and making its Japanese TV debut this year, things are set to be even bigger in the future.

So what's happening in the future for Demon Slayer? The second season of the anime has just started this October and the premiere episode had one of the highest viewership in Japan so far. With that in mind, things will only get better and better for the franchise.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Episode 2 will air on October 17, 2021.
