Future Star Wars Movies Delayed Due to Construction of New Studio

Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it looked like we got the promise of having a Star Wars film every year, but after the underperformance of Solo, it seemed that Lucasfilm has taken a step back to re-assess their direction. For now, the last Star Wars film set to come out is The Rise of Skywalker with future movies yet to have a release date. What's interesting is, we may have a reason as to the delay of the announcement for other projects.

According to Making Star Wars, Lucasfilm is currently working on another studio apart from Pinewood where the latest Star Wars films have been shot. MSW writes:

The Star Wars hiatus we are currently having after The Rise of Skywalker is to let the studio construction finish up and to allow the Weiss and Benioff to create the best possible saga without an unreasonable time crunch. If all of this is accurate and at this time we believe that to be the plan, it seems like the responsible and smart way to handle the next saga.

While we don't have any update on future anthology movies, we are getting a film trilogy from Rian Johnson plus a series of movies from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The Mandalorian has wrapped and is set to come out this November, and the only other series in the works in Cassian Andor which is rumored to begin production this fall.

Personally, I would have preferred if Lucasfilm kept pushing with their anthology films, and rumor has it that those movies have been reworked into upcoming miniseries. Personally, I prefer the spectacle of a theatrical release, but I guess a TV show would be fine. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how The Mandalorian turns out before we can have a proper assessment.

Catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters Dec. 20.
