DCU Fans React to Supergirl in The Flash Newest Trailer

The Super Bowl is one of the things that people look forward to every year, regardless if you are a major sports fan or a pop culture fan waiting for your favorite artist’s performance during halftime. This annual playoff game also caters to moviegoers, and this year DCU fans have finally gotten their first look at the very delayed and controversial The Flash movie.

The film’s star, Ezra Miller, has been the subject of headlines given their numerous scandals, and DC Studios' decision to keep them in the project has been displeasing for many fans. Nonetheless, the movie's newest trailer released in the Super Bowl gave the fans a glimpse at seeing multiple Flashes, Batmans, and the first look at Sasha Calle making her debut as Supergirl.

Supergirl's appearance has been one of the highlights of the trailer, despite only appearing for roughly five seconds. This is the first time the hero has appeared in a film since the 1984 Supergirl film, so everyone is anticipating what her character will bring to the Flash’s narrative. Some joyful fans took to Twitter to discuss the Girl of Steel’s DCU debut.

Some also pointed out the part in the trailer where Supergirl saves (a version of) Batman from an attacker, punching the villain and presumably killing them. This scene indicates that Supergirl is a different breed from her beloved cousin, Superman because the Man of Steel is known for refusing to kill, while this soon-to-be-defended Girl of Steel does the killing so effortlessly.

While this is her first live-action film appearance since the 1980s, Supergirl had her own beloved CW show, and of course, fans immediately made a comparison between Calle’s hero and the show's star, Melissa Benoist, given that they quite grew fond of Benoist as she portrayed Supergirl for six long years.

Given that James Gunn announced last month that Supergirl will be part of the DCU’s new universe, fans also took the time right now to begin the campaign for Calle to extend her stay as Supergirl, hoping that she would assume the lead in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Given the positive reactions so far to her portrayal as the Girl of Steel, Calle also took to Twitter to express her gratitude. “Y’ALL! I LOVE YOU! I PUT MY HEART AND SOUL INTO SUPERGIRL. IT’S SO EXCITING TO FINALLY SHARE A LITTLE BIT OF HER WITH YOU! SHE’S SO SPECIAL & STRONG. GETTING TO KNOW HER & FEEL HER HAS BEEN ONE OF MY GREATEST HONORS. I LOVE HER SO MUCH AND I LOVE YOU! JUNE 16. LET'S FUCKING GOOOOGO!” she said.

The Flash opens in theaters on June 16, 2023.
