One of the upcoming comic book films that are set to be released this year is DC League of Super-Pets which hasn't been on the radar of a lot of fans since it is an animated film that focuses more on the titular pet superheroes in the DC Universe. While we still have to wait for three months before we'll finally be able to get to see it, it looks like you can already find out the plot of the film thanks to a newly-released tie-in book.
Per The Direct, Instagram user @silenzioalvaro shared images from the newly-released 24-page DC League of Super-Pets (Step into Reading) children's book (available to purchase on Amazon) which seemingly spoiled the plot of the entire film ahead of its release this summer.
According to the images, the film will start with an introduction of Superman and his pet companion Krypto the Super-Dog. Then, on a trip to the animal shelter, Krypto will meet fellow pets such as Chip, PB, Merton, Ace, and Lulu. After coming into contact with the Orange Kryptonite, they begin to develop powers, with Lulu having mind powers that send her toward the path of world domination.
After escaping from captivity, Lulu obtains the Green Kryptonite that will depower Superman and Krypto, who turns to his super-powered animal friends to help him rescue the Man of Steel. Lulu forms an army of powered guinea pigs thanks to the Orange Kryptonite and imprisons the entire Justice League. The Super-Pets try to rescue them although they would end up getting imprisoned as well.
During the climax, Lulu becomes more powerful thanks to the Orange Kryptonite although the effects of the Green Kryptonite are also wearing off on Krypto, who would free his fellow Super-Pets and takedown Lulu as well as free the Justice League.
While it is likely that the story in the book won't closely match the events that will happen in the film, the premise might be exactly the same and this may just be the summarized version of the plot. It is baffling that the story already leaked in official merchandise this early although perhaps they released it around this time since the film was supposed to be released this coming May and they weren't able to change the book's release in time.
Despite this early leak, it's not expected to affect the audience's interest or the box office performance of the film since the book features only the shortened version of the story and a lot of people might not have encountered it at all. However, there is now a way for them to access the story early if ever they already want to get spoiled.
The film has a star-studded voice cast including Dwayne Johnson (as Krypto), Kevin Hart (as Ace), Diego Luna (as Chip), Natasha Lyonne (as Merton), Vanessa Bayer (as PB), John Krasinski (as Superman), Marc Maron (as Lex Luthor), Keanu Reeves (as Batman), Kate McKinnon, Jameela Jamil, Ben Schwartz, and Thomas Middleditch.
Jared Stern is writing and directing the film, sharing the duty on the former with John Whittington and the latter with Sam Levine. Johnson and Stern are also producing alongside Patricia Hicks, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia. John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, and Nicholas Stoller also serve as executive producers.
