Dave Bautista Recalls How His Guardians of the Galaxy Audition Went

To many, Dave Bautista became a star after the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He did very good work in that movie and has only improved since then, with his comedic performances in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War proving to be great parts in those amazing films. While he seemed like a natural on the big screen, it turns out that Bautista thought the auditioning process for the role was a nightmare.

During Denver Pop Culture Con (via CBR), Bautista discussed how hard it was for his agent to get him the audition and how much of a mess he was. Bautista even brought up how being a former WWE superstar hurt him since they seem to have a bad reputation for being in bad films, though Dave, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and John Cena are now doing well.

"It was a nightmare. I was terrified. I was really desperate at the time, I had hardly worked in three years, and I had gone broke from wrestling and I was desperate to get a job. I finally got an agent like two weeks before I got the audition for Guardians. My agent says, ‘You know, I really had to fight to get you this audition. It was really hard to get, they didn't really want to audition you. They didn't want any pro wrestlers, so I don't want to get your hopes up.'"

Fast forward to years later and Bautista continues to prove himself as an actor. He has had other great roles outside of Drax the Destroyer, as movies like Blade Runner 2049 proved. Dave is also expected to return as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and has finally retired from professional wrestling after taking on Triple H during WrestleMania 35.
