Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine features lots of unique manga that have gotten anime adaptations. The latest one is The Darwin Incident, which was just confirmed to be getting an anime soon.
A teaser visual for the show was shared featuring its two protagonists to accompany the announcement. What’s more, an illustration by series creator Shun Umezawa was also shared.
As there’s not a lot of info about the anime so far, fans will likely need to wait a while before the show gets released.
The Darwin Incident Anime Release Date Predictions
New anime announcements can usually be divided into two. The first one are shows that are announced with accompanying trailers that feature actual footage. These shows typically premiere after just a few months.
The other, more common type of reveal is the confirmation of an anime’s production with no trailer. Teaser visuals or promo videos are usually the only things that accompany these.
Of course, there are some exceptions to this. An example of this is the upcoming Kinema Citrus show titled Goodbye, Lara, which has a trailer, but it’s a concept trailer instead of featuring actual footage.
The Darwin Incident can be classified into the second type, so it’s fair to say it won’t be released anytime soon. A good bet is that it will take at least one year before its premiere.
Given that there's no trailer or info about which studio will work on the show, this anime’s release will likely be either in late 2025 or early 2026.
With there likely being a long wait for the anime to come out, fans may want to check out the manga as it has gotten critical acclaim for its unique story.

What Is The Darwin Incident About?
Shun Umezawa’s The Darwin Incident is a manga that’s serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon, the same magazine as hit titles such as Vinland Saga, Skip and Loafer, and Heavenly Delusion.
As the magazine’s titles are seinen manga with unique stories, it follows that Darwin also has an intriguing story that’s far from the typical shonen or isekai anime.
The manga follows the half-human half-chimpanzee Charlie who is rescued by an animal rights organization. Raised by human parents, Charlie soon goes to high school and befriends a girl named Lucy.
Soon, the animal rights organization becomes increasingly more extreme in their ways, to the point that they’re dragging Charlie into their eco-terrorism plots.
For fans in the US, the manga is published in English by Kodansha USA, with the first five volumes already available.

Predicting the Anime’s Studio
While there’s no studio yet, it’s confirmed that Toho is part of the anime’s production committee. This indicates that the show might have high production values, potentially meaning it’ll be made by a big studio.
Some potential studios that may be tapped to work on it include Production I.G, Wit Studio, Bones, or MAPPA given that these studios have worked on various Toho anime projects before.
