Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley recently opened up about her Graves' disease diagnosis for the first time.
As most fans know, Ridley rose to prominence thanks to her iconic performance as Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. She went on to star in other films such as the sports drama Young Woman and the Sea where she showed her range as a performer.
She is set to make her comeback to the Star Wars franchise soon as Lucasfilm confirmed last year that she will be starring in a new movie that takes place years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
Daisy Ridley Opens Up About Her Graves' Disease Diagnosis
Ridley revealed in a recent interview that she was diagnosed with Graves' disease around September of last year.
In case you're not familiar, Graves' disease is an autoimmune disorder that involves overactivity of the thyroid.
The actress shared that she found out about her diagnosis when she spoke with an endocrinologist about the symptoms that she was having such as racing heart rate, weight loss, fatigue, and hand tremors.
"It was funny, I was like, ‘Oh, I just thought I was annoyed at the world,’ but turns out everything is functioning so quickly, you can’t chill out," the Star Wars actress recalled.
Regarding why she decided to go public about her diagnosis, Ridley said, "We all read the stats about women being undiagnosed or underdiagnosed and sort of coming to terms with saying, ‘I really, actually don’t feel good’ and not going, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine.’ It’s just normalized to not feel good."
"In the grand scheme of things, it’s much less severe than what a lot of people go through," she added. "Even if you can deal with it, you shouldn’t have to. If there’s a problem, you shouldn’t have to just [suffer through it]."
Despite her health issue, Ridley is still regularly working out but with some adjustments to her routine.
"Generally, my training stays pretty consistent. And then we tailor stuff to what I’m doing. It’s just finding the balance, and me understanding now where my tolerance really ends," she shared.
