If you tuned in to the latest episode of Crisis on Infinite Earths, you were probably shocked to find that the heroes made it to Earth-666 to meet Lucifer. But wait, didn't Tom Ellis deny any involvement in The CW's crossover event? Now Ellis has revealed why he chose to lie to fans about the surprise cameo.
Ellis recently spoke to ET Online where he admitted that he was excited about his appearance in The Flash and didn't want it to be leaked.
"When I went to go and shoot the scene, we were talking on set beforehand -- myself and Matt Ryan -- and we were like, ‘This is so exciting. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could keep this a secret for the fans until they actually see it onscreen that night?' Of course, these days that's not that possible with social media at all," Ellis said.
He's not exactly wrong about that because the images of him with the Crisis on Infinite Earths cast was immediately leaked all over the internet. Nevertheless, Ellis decided he should actively dispel the rumors to at least give his cameo an element of surprise.
"I think there were a few people hanging around the set who noticed that I was there and put stuff out that I was going to be in it, so I kind of was like, ‘I would still really like to surprise some people.' So that is why," Ellis said.
Lucifer showed up in the episode Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three when John Constantine, Mia Smoak, and John Diggle tried to get Oliver Queen's soul out of Purgatory. Although it looks like Ellis will only appear in one scene, we're hoping that Earth-666 will be revisited in future episodes.
The next Crisis on Infinite Earths episode will air on The CW on January 14, 2020. The final season of Lucifer has not yet been given an official release date but is set to premiere on Netflix next year.
