Crisis on Infinite Earths is Arrowverse's biggest and most ambitious crossover yet. The five-part event definitely took fans by surprise, especially with a handful of character deaths and epic cameos. And while there's still a lot to process from the event, it looks like Crisis showrunner already has something next in mind.
In a recent interview with TV Line, Marc Guggenheim was asked if they have an idea for the next Arrowverse crossover event. "I would say I have ‘ideas' for ideas,'" he said. "I've sort of pitched to [The CW CEO] Mark Pedowitz and [executive producer] Greg Berlanti what, if left to my own devices, I would like to see us do."
Guggenheim revealed that there is a rubric "that is semi in place" and that both Pedowitz and Berlanti already signed off on that. "And as we go onward, things will get more and more specific," he added. Guggenheim also mentioned that he emailed Pedowitz the other day, saying that they should "get in a room together" and talk about it. "We typically do a post mortem about what went right, what went wrong, what did we learn…. We always learn something."
When asked if there's another massive team-up event again, Guggenheim admits that he hates comparisons with Avengers: Endgame, but he mentioned the movie to make his point. "We're working with Endgame‘s catering budget — but Marvel didn't follow up Endgame with Endgame 2," he said. "I think you've got to build on to an event of this kind."
Guggenheim made it clear that they all agreed upon not going to go as big as Crisis next year. Guggenheim also left a tease that would surely get fans thinking. "Mark [Pedowitz] and I were talking about ‘returning to the roots' of our crossovers," he said. "And I'll leave it to people to interpret what that means."
