Could Rey’s Parents Have Actually Been In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s Trailer?

There's been a lot of controversy surrounding Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parentage the past few years. Introducing the Star Wars hero as an orphan from Jakku in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams sparked many different theories that Rey might actually be related to the Skywalkers, Kenobis, and other legacy families.

However, Star Wars: The Last Jedi undid everything, turning Rey into a daughter of a couple of nobodies. While the thought that a nobody could become a hero empowered some Star Wars fans, others felt betrayed, continually hoping that Abrams would retcon Rian Johnson's decision in the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Now, a new theory by IGN suggests that fans might have actually seen Rey's parents in the recently released teaser trailer for The Rise of Skywalker. Last weekend, Lucasfilm released the very first teaser for the third and final film in the sequel trilogy. While the trailer didn't last that long, it did have a lot of reveals, including the presence of Emperor Palpatine.

Taking note of the ship flying towards a planet in the teaser, IGN suggests that this could very well be the same ship belonging to Rey's parents in The Force Awakens.

Check out comparison screenshots down here:

Interestingly enough, both ships have dual engines and thin wing structures at their rear end. Could this ship really belong to Rey's parents? Or could they just be the same model of ship flying around in the galaxy?

We could theorize all we want, but ultimately we'll have to wait and see what surprises Lucasfilm has in store for us when The Rise of Skywalker debuts later this year.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
