Well, it had to happen sometime. Most of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was written by Reddit after all so it only made sense to have the original Star Wars: Episode IX script from Colin Trevorrow leak. While Trevorrow has been a hit-and-miss director, depending on who's asking, his original script for Episode IX is actually fairly engaging, with many fans wishing this was the movie they saw in theaters instead.
Honestly? It's better than The Rise of Skywalker, at least on paper. We'll never know how it would have been like to see this film in action but this version of the movie does feature an intriguing journey filled with tragedy and awesome moments. While neither Disney nor Colin Trevorrow has commented on the leak, a "close source" told The AV Club that this was his script.
Apparently, Trevorrow's version of Episode IX would have been called Star Wars: Duel of the Fates, which is an excellent title. While the movie would have also started with Kylo Ren hunting down a Holocron, it would have given him a different mission; train under Tor Valum. The Holocron would have shown us a hologram of Palpatine, which would have been his only appearance, and the message was meant for Darth Vader should Luke Skywalker kill the pale emperor.
Not interesting enough for you? What about the fact that the Force Ghost of Luke Skywalker is haunting Kylo Ren? Despite a few taunts here and there, Luke does want to bring Kylo Ren to the side of right but fails.
On the resistance's side, Rey is wondering if she should still be a Jedi and if this line of monk warriors should even continue. Rey also believes that Ben Solo can be redeemed since he did help her out during The Last Jedi. Meanwhile, Finn, Rose Tico, R2-D2, and C-3PO are trying to find a beacon that will bring allies to help them in their fight against The First Order.
Most of the interest seems to come from the journey of Kylo Ren, however. Tor Valum is revealed to be a Lovecraftian horror and proceeds to give Ren some harsh training. At one point, Ren fights a phantom version of Darth Vader, which sounds AMAZING, and loses before making his way to a showdown with Rey.
Despite a push from Rey, Ren doesn't turn to the light and reveals that he killed her parents all those years ago under the orders of Snoke. Needless to say, Ren doesn't survive his encounter with Rey.
The original Reddit post that had this script has since been deleted but reactions to it are everywhere. Needless to say, this would have been an amazing movie.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might still be showing in theaters. Star Wars: Duel of the Fates will never be released, unfortunately.
