Code Geass Director to Direct One Piece Film Red Film - Release Date, Synopsis, and More

During the airing of the 1000th episode of the One Piece anime, it was also announced that the director for the upcoming anime film of the franchised titled One Piece Film Red will be directed by Goro Taniguchi.

Taniguchi is no stranger in the anime industry as he was responsible for directing the hit Code Geass anime project.

In relation to the announcement, the trailer for the upcoming film was also released.

The writer for the screenplay for One Piece Film Red will be done by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. Kuroiwa has written the screenplay for the previous One Piece films specifically One Piece Film Gold and One Piece: Heart of Gold. He has also written the screenplay for GANTZ:O and the live-action adaptation of Black Butler. The creator of the One Piece manga, Eiichiro Oda is credited as the Executive Producer for the upcoming film.

The film is scheduled to premiere in Japan on August 6, 2022. There is still no word yet for international screenings outside of Japan.

In relation to One Piece’s 1000th anime episode, a 17-minute video was uploaded on the official One Piece YouTube channel which features a second of from all 1,000 episodes. The anime has been airing in Japan for 23 years now.

The 1000th episode of One Piece aired in Japan recently and it was a great wave of nostalgia for fans as they brought back the opening theme sequence featuring the song ‘We Are’.

The recent One Piece anime film titled One Piece Stampede is the 14th film in the franchise that premiered in Japan in August 2019. It was also released for international screening. The film earned 10 billion yen (estimated USD $93 million) worldwide.

ONE PIECE is a manga series created by Eiichiro Oda on July 22, 1997. The new manga chapters are released regularly in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The manga has released more than 490 million copies in 58 countries since July 2021, making it the best-selling manga series ever.
