Christian Bale Explains His Big Roles Exist Because Leo DiCaprio 'Passed On It'

In a recent interview with GQ, Christian Bale states that many of the roles he accepted were initially offered to Leonardo DiCaprio, who almost always had the first say in big-time leading parts. Bale makes it clear that he isn’t the only actor in line, in fact, a lot of Hollywood’s top talent waits for an actor to pass on a script that would interest the next actor in line. Bale continues that he never took a casting decision that favored DiCaprio.

Christian Bale is known for his unforgettable performances as Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy, Irving Rosenfeld in American Hustle, and more. As for now, audiences are looking forward to seeing him nail his role in Amsterdam.

“All those people I’ve worked with multiple times, they all offered every one of those roles to him first. Right? I had one of those people actually tell me that. So, thank you, Leo, because literally, he gets to choose everything he does. And good for him, he’s phenomenal.”

Bale adds how much he admires DiCaprio for he does his roles ‘magnificently’ and wouldn’t want the same exposure that the actor has.

Granted, both Bale and DiCaprio share some similarities in a casting and demographic perspective, both have been in show business since their early days throughout the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, but both actors do impressive and memorable performances due to their different tastes in roles. What looks good and perfectly fit for one might not have the same reaction and execution as the other.

“Do you know how grateful I am to get any damn thing?” Bale reiterates, “I mean, I can’t do what he does. I wouldn’t want the exposure that he has either. And he does it magnificently. But I would suspect that almost everybody of similar age to him in Hollywood owes their careers to him passing on whatever project it is.”
