Chris Evans Says Marvel Movies Should Get More Recognition by Award-Giving Bodies

Contrary to what Martin Scorsese might believe about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame star Chris Evan believes that Marvel movies deserve more awards than they've been receiving.

The Marvel star just recently spoke in an interview with Deadline to help promote his new AppleTV+ series Defending Jacob, and during the discussion, Evans got to talk about the quality of Marvel movies and why the installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe deserves more recognition from Award-giving bodies.

It seems like Evans believes a lot in the MCU, saying that the films in the franchise are all well-thought of.

"There is enormous thought and consideration that goes into these story arcs," the actor told the publication, "If you take the Marvel moniker off those movies, and characters that aren't identifiable from comic books these movies would be lauded in that way. I'm not saying every one's a home run. But they really turn out some really impressive movies."

Over the past few years, there has been an intense debate about whether or not comic book movies should be given that much critical consideration. The conversation began when Martin Scorcese came out saying that he didn't really consider Marvel movies as part of "cinema," instead describing them as a "themepark."

Of course, the discussion about the cultural and critical value of comic book movies isn't entirely new – in fact the debate briefly inspired the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to consider giving out a popular movie Oscar. Unfortunately, the idea fell through after it saw backlash.
