The Russo Brothers would have surpassed a major milestone in their career with the release of Avengers: Endgame, and the two are already working up to their first post-MCU movie. Just in, they're bringing in Infinity War vet Tom Holland for the ride.
According to Variety, Holland is set to star in Cherry, based on a book by Nico Walker about his very true story about being a former army medic who serves in the Iraq war, undergoes extreme PTSD, and starts robbing banks. Walker was arrested in 2011 and is set for a release in 2020—which could be the same year that this film comes out.
I just think it's funny that Holland is playing an army medic in this film since former Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield also played an army medic in the film Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson. Interestingly enough, Tobey Maguire had also played a soldier in Brothers, but he wasn't a medic in that movie.
Another funny thing about Brothers, that movie starred Jake Gyllenhaal as Maguire's onscreen brother. Gyllenhaal was set to replace him as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 2, and now Gyllenhaal is going to play the villain Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far from Home alongside Holland.
We don't know what genre Cherry is going to be, but I have a feeling that it's going to focus less on the war aspect and more on the Ocean's 11-style bank robbing. Then again, it's just my guess that this is the genre. I guess we can't really tell until another major announcement is made about the film.
Catch The Russo Brothers' Avengers: Endgame when it comes out April 26.
