Ever since Netflix's Daredevil got canned, Charlie Cox lost hope of ever getting an MCU renewal of his series. That is until Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige dialed him up to join the comic book franchise to reprise his role.
Charlie Cox Initially Thought He Lost Daredevil Forever
Although Charlie Cox reprised his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and later, in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, he couldn't see hope in ever getting his series revival.
Considering that Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin returned for his roles in Hawkeye and Echo, it was difficult to think that Marvel had no plans involving The Man Without Fear.
Cox recalled they had stopped shooting the Netflix show at the end of 2016, only to have it canceled sometime in 2018, "And then it wasn't until midway through 2020 that we got a phone call from Kevin saying they were interested in bringing the characters back."
At the time, Cox admitted, "I completely let go," adding that he and Vincent would occasionally call in hopes that someone would pick up the series, "[Vincent] would say things like, 'Oh, they're going to call. I think they're going to call us.' And I would get off the phone and be like, 'The guy's delusional! He's got to let it go.'"
The British star thought, "It's going to be 10 years and [Vincent]'s still going. It's over. It's definitely over."
Well, lo and behold, Daredevil: Born Again got its confirmation in May 2022 at San Diego Comic-Con. On Friday, August 9 this year, Marvel unveiled our first look at Daredevil: Born Again at the D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
D'Onofrio admits that while it was "shocking" to witness Marvel pick up Daredevil where they left off, "For me, it was a great show and been silly for love."
Elden Henson who played Franklin "Foggy" Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page will also be returning to Daredevil: Born Again.
