Channing Tatum has expressed his hope for his canceled Gambit solo movie to get revived following his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The actor finally made his debut as the fan-favorite mutant in the MCU film years after the planned standalone movie was shelved due to Disney acquiring Fox and the rights to X-Men returning to Marvel Studios.
His performance as Gambit was well-received by many fans and his Cajun accent has also become the subject of a meme online. It also made fans want to see more of him as the character in the future.
Channing Tatum 'Prays to God' for Gambit Solo Movie to Happen
In a recent interview, Tatum was asked whether he is hopeful again for the Gambit solo movie to finally happen in the aftermath of his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine.
"I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please," he responded.
The actor also revealed that he already told Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about his interest in the project to get revived and it's up to him whether it will happen.
"I’ve course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in [Disney CEO] Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God," Tatum said.
Given how celebrated Tatum's debut as Gambit was, many fans would also be happy to see the solo movie finally happen. He has proven with his limited screen time that he can carry a standalone project.
However, it is likely that it won't happen anytime soon since Marvel Studios is more focused right now on other projects and they might not be interested in making a movie that doesn't have a strong connection to the overall arc of the MCU.
For now, let's wait and see whether the solo movie will happen. While the chances are unlikely for now, Deadpool & Wolverine has proven that nothing is impossible at this point as evidenced by the surprise cameos they pulled off.
