Chadwick Boseman to Receive Disney Legend Award at D23 Expo

Following his posthumous Oscar and Emmy nominations after his death in August 2020, The Walt Disney Company has announced that the late MCU actor Chadwick Boseman is among the 14 honorees at this year's Disney Legends during the upcoming D23 expo which will be held this September 9 at Anaheim Convention Center.

Besides Boseman, the other Disney Legend honorees this year are Anthony Anderson, Kristen Bell, Rob’t Coltrin, Patrick Dempsey, Robert Price “Bob” Foster, Jonathan Groff, Don Hahn, Josh Gad, Doris Hardoon, Idina Menzel, Chris Montan, Ellen Pompeo, and Tracee Ellis Ross. All of them are being recognized for their significant and lasting contributions to the Disney Legacy.

The late Black Panther star will be joining his fellow Marvel alumni who were Disney Legends recipients in the past such as Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, Ming-Na Wen, Stan Lee, and Jack Kirby.

The honorees will receive a two-foot-tall bronze Disney Legends sculpture and will also participate in a handprint ceremony at the end of the event while their bronzed prints will be displayed in the Disney Legends Plaza at the company’s Burbank headquarters.

While Disney didn't provide any details regarding how the late actor is going to be honored at the event, it is very likely that his family will be receiving the award on his behalf during the ceremony.

It is great to hear that Boseman is receiving the honor. Not only did he give an iconic performance as T'Challa/Black Panther during his stay in the MCU back when he was still with us, but he also has an enduring legacy as the character that still goes on years after his passing.

The upcoming film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is set to be released in theaters this November 11, will also pay tribute to the late actor.
