Celebrate Alfred's Life in Batman: Pennyworth R.I.P.

When Alfred died in Batman #77, fans were hoping that it would be some sort of hoax and we would see that it was an illusion from Psycho Pirate or something else entirely. Unfortunately, future issues and solicitations have confirmed that Alfred Pennyworth is indeed dead and the Bat-Family are going to have a hard time coping once City of Bane is over. To commemorate the iconic character, DC Comics has announced Batman: Pennyworth R.I.P. #1, which will act as a eulogy for Alfred.

The one-shot from upcoming Batman writer James Tynion IV and current Detective Comics scribe Peter J. Tomasi will deal with how Bruce Wayne handles the death of Alfred, a man who could arguably be his father. Apparently, Bruce is at a crossroads and isn't sure if he should continue his crusade or just hang up his boots forever, which might lead to that rumored 5G event where all the current heroes are replaced.

It's just a rumor though.

Anyway, here's a solicitation of the issue from Newsarama:

Honestly, this death is going to have ripple effects in all of Batman's comics and should be taken seriously. To that point, I would argue that DC should keep him dead for a long time; maybe even permanently. Knowing the way comic books work, he could come back through some magic voodoo but we'd rather he stay dead.

Batman: Pennyworth R.I.P. #1 comes out this February.
