Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) might have gotten a new suit in Avengers: Endgame but what fans don't know is that Carol Danvers actually wore the same outfit she had when she was first introduced in her standalone movie, Captain Marvel.
Marvel just recently released The Art of Avengers: Endgame, and in the book, fans get to learn different little secrets about the phenomenally successful comic book movie (via Screen Rant). That includes Captain Marvel's little costume change.
According to Director of Visual Development Andy Park, Carol Danvers' "original" suit was first designed for Endgame. Park wanted to see the original suit in Endgame and in Captain Marvel, however, the creative team later on decided that it would make sense for Carol to change her look at some point in the three decades between both movies.
"The way it worked was I designed her look first for the Russo brothers for Endgame, because she initially filmed her Endgame appearances before her solo film. It was a very odd situation I haven't had in all my years that I've been here, to design a character for one director knowing right away she's going to have her own solo film with a different director," the Director of Visual Development explained. "So she acted in Endgame with her solo-film costume, and then it was decided later that they wanted a new costume for Endgame, because why would she wear this exact same costume decades later? That's when they approached me about exploring new looks."
Marvel's creative team tried on different ideas for Captain Marvel's look. They tried weathering her original costume to make it look like Marvel's strongest Avenger had been through many years of hero work. They tried making additions like putting on a sash to the outfit. Then they tried to push the design, breaking up colors, introducing more blue, and so on and so forth.
The team made the right decision changing up Captain Marvel's outfit. Fans loved Carol's new look in Endgame.
