Captain Marvel: Fans React To How Nick Fury Loses His Eye

People are currently heading for the theaters to watch Captain Marvel so they could see Carol Danvers in action. However, most of us also have an ulterior motive: it's finally time to find out just how Nick Fury lost his eye. Interestingly, the reveal has been getting some mixed reactions.

Spoilers Ahead! You Have Been Warned!

In Captain Marvel, Fury is instantly smitten with Goose, the cat that once belonged to the mysterious Dr. Wendy Lawson. At first, it seems like the feelings are mutual since Goose actually follows them in a cargo jet. However, the feline turned out to be much more dangerous than expected.

Talos repeatedly warns Fury that Goose is actually a Flerken, an alien that resembles a cat, but nobody believes him. That is until Goose is revealed to have tentacles hidden in his mouth. Even then, Fury continues to dote on the not-cat, which eventually snaps and scratches his eye.

It certainly lends a new meaning to what Fury initially told Steve Rogers in Captain America: The Winter Soldier: "Last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye." Needless to say, people are reacting to the reveal on social media.

In all fairness, we can forgive Fury for not actually revealing what truly happened to his eye. After all, it seemed like Agent Coulson's misconception (that Fury was injured while fighting a Kree warrior) would be a more acceptable reason for wearing an eye patch. Besides, would you tell the truth if you lost your eye to an adorable creature that looks relatively harmless, especially when someone kept warning you about it?

Captain Marvel is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
