After the massive success of Captain Marvel, fans have been waiting for updates with regards to the plans for the movie sequel. The film isn't included in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which is why fans were curious about the state of the second movie. That being said, fans will finally get some details on Captain Marvel 2 and it's looking good so far!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has tapped a staff writer of the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision to pen the Captain Marvel sequel. The outlet claims that McDonnell is already in final negotiations with the studio to "seal her deal."

THR also mentioned that sources claim Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-wrote and directed the first Captain Marvel film, won't be returning to direct the sequel. However, they are said to be "in talks to remain in the Marvel Universe" and potentially direct a Disney+ series. The studio is reportedly looking for a female filmmaker to be in-charge for the sequel and are eyeing a 2022 release date.

Details are yet to be revealed about the sequel's plotline, but Captain Marvel 2's story will reportedly "move the setting from the 1990s of the original movie to the present day." Given that most of the information about the sequel are still kept under wraps, it looks to be quite promising so far.
