Captain America Actor Anthony Mackie Will Star in Twisted Metal TV Series

After taking the reign of Captain America by the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie has found another high-profile franchise to star in and, this time, he is going to take over the world of demolition derby.

Deadline has reported that Anthony Mackie is set to star and executive produce in a half-hour live-action TV series adaptation of the hit video game Twisted Metal. He will play a character named John Doe. Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are producing the project. There's no network attached yet, but they will take it to the buyers soon.

Mackie's character John Doe is said to be "a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, he gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat."

The series, developed by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, is described as a high-octane action-comedy about "a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he'll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck."

It'll be curious to see how they will translate the chaotic nature of the game into a television series. Based on the description in the report alone, it seems like they will make a lot of changes from the source material in order to suit the TV series format while still retaining the DNA of what the game is known for. In fact, they are hinting that Needless Kane will make an appearance and it'll be curious to find out what his live-action appearance will look like. Mackie is a fantastic actor and there is no doubt that he will be a great lead for the series. It sounds like another showcase for his acting talent in a genre that he has explored before.
