With the return of Tim Roth's Emil Blonsky/Abomination in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and this year's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, it seems like the MCU is starting to recognize The Incredible Hulk again as part of their expanding canon. Now, it looks like another character from the film is making a comeback to serve as the foil in an upcoming MCU project.
According to Deadline, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced during their D23 presentation that Tim Blake Nelson, who we last saw in The Incredible Hulk, is joining the cast of Captain America: New World Order reprising his role of Dr. Samuel Sterns/The Leader from the 2008 film.
"I’m delighted," Nelson said on stage at the D23 presentation. "Marvel is part of cinema history, that I get to be a part of that is an absolute honor. Thank you for sticking with The Leader."
In addition, Feige also announced that Unorthodox star Shira Haas is also joining the cast as Israeli superhero Sabra while Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly are returning to reprise their respective roles of Joaquin Torres (the new Falcon) and Isaiah Bradley from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Anthony Mackie stars as Sam Wilson, the new Captain America. Julius Onah is directing the film. Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman, who were both in the writing team of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, are penning the screenplay. The film is part of the MCU's upcoming Phase Five slate.
It is interesting to hear that The Leader is making his return to the MCU and will serve as the villain in the upcoming Captain America film. It looks like Marvel Studios apparently still has plans for The Incredible Hulk characters after all these years despite the long gap and it would be curious to see if they will also bring back Liv Tyler's Betty Ross in a future project.
