If there's one thing fans wish for the Call of Duty live-action adaptation, it's to stick to the original lore or expand the existing material. However, in a recent interview with ComicBook, director Peter Berg gets honest about where the movie will actually take inspiration from.

"If you really look at the missions and the storylines and the characters like Captain Price, Soap, Ghost, and Alex, these are complicated humans. These are not, and no disrespect, cartoon characters or comic books," Berg told the outlet. "These are very nuanced storylines; there's a real soul to the Modern Warfare universe."

Berg went on to say that while "there's violence and hardware and equipment and killing", beneath the surface, the creators of the game are "looking at the cost of war, the cost of having to be a warrior chosen to put himself between real danger and the rest of us", which is what he plans to execute and explore in the adaptation: "the burden that these guys carry."

What Call of Duty Fans Can Expect From the Upcoming Live-Action Adaptation

With Paramount Pictures and Activision officially slating the feature film for a 2028 theatrical release window, fans continue to hype their high expectations and undeniable anticipation for what the big screen can do to deliver the longtime beloved game.

Rather than delivering mindless popcorn violence, the adaptation promises to balance the intensity of military realism and the emotional burden it takes for every soldier to decide the fate and future of humanity.

While Berg noted that the film will feature less graphic gore than historical period pieces like The Mosquito Bowl, it will keep the weight behind every consequence that comes after every action taken on the battlefield, similar to the way Modern Warfare showcased high stakes when the team fails to act right on time.

With Yellowstone screenwriter Taylor Sheridan's involvement, fans can definitely expect the iconic tactical gear, the signature combat environments, and a cinematic story that captures the brotherhood and duty that defined the original games for millions of players worldwide.

For now, the Call of Duty live-action is slated to premiere on June 30, 2028. Stay tuned for more updates!
