Brandon Routh to Play Kingdom Come Superman in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths

Brandon Routh may have been best known for playing the lead in Superman Returns, but he has since put the franchise behind him. What's interesting is, he's going to be reprising the role of Kal-El for The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths, and he may have just confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con what he'll be drawing inspiration from.

Check out his reveal of Superman's emblem from Kingdom Come:

If you're not familiar, Kingdom Come is one of the most iconic Elseworlds stories from DC, and is written by Mark Waid and Alex Ross. Besides the take on the superheroes, which is basically like the DC version of Marvel's Civil War, we also have page after page of stunning art from Ross.

We don't really know what The CW plans to do with Routh's Superman, but I have a feeling it's going to be his own original take compared to a continuation of his movie version of Superman. Honestly, I thought they would need an older Superman to play this Kingdom Come version, but I am genuinely glad to see Routh reprise the character. I thought he was fantastic in Superman Returns, and I never really got all the dislike when the movie came out.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is a crossover event and will start later this year through CW shows Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Batwoman. The event is expected to end early 2020.
