Oscar-nominated A-list star Bradley Cooper is confirmed to join the highly anticipated G.I. Joe movie reboot. But which character is he playing?
Earlier this year, it was announced that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a new movie in the G.I. Joe franchise, with Danny McBride writing and directing. Fans have been looking forward to seeing what his new take will look like and whether it will surpass the quality of the previous adaptations.
Now, it has recruited a major star to lead the reboot.
Who Is Bradley Cooper Playing in the New G.I. Joe Movie?
Deadline confirmed that Bradley Cooper has signed on to star in the new G.I. Joe movie reboot. He will be playing the lead role of Duke.
In case you're not familiar with the character, he is the G.I. Joe Team's First Sergeant. He was portrayed by Channing Tatum in the previous film adaptations of the franchise.
The report stated that after Danny McBride officially became the director, he sought Cooper for the role of Duke. Cooper is currently busy working on the Ocean's prequel movie, so there was no guarantee that he would sign on to the project.
However, after reading the script and meeting with McBride, Cooper committed to starring in the movie, and negotiations started in the last few weeks.
This won't be the first time McBride and Cooper work together, since Cooper previously guest-starred in McBride's HBO series The Righteous Gemstones.
Now, all eyes are on the other casting details for the movie, as fans are anticipating who will play the other fan-favorite characters that will fill the rest of the team.
What to Expect in the G.I. Joe Movie Reboot?
So far, the plot details regarding the new G.I. Joe movie are currently under wraps, although McBride has already teased the story he has been working on for his version of G.I. Joe.
"[It follows] Duke and a group of other Joes. There's a town called Springfield that is secretly all Cobra. That is where our film takes place," he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast last July.
The plan is to begin filming in 2027, although Paramount Pictures has not set a release window yet for its arrival in theaters.
For now, stay tuned for more news updates regarding the making of the new G.I. Joe movie in the coming months.
