More than half a year after Blue Bloods ended, the Reagan family is set to return to the small screen—but not everyone will be coming back. CBS has officially greenlit the spinoff Boston Blue, which will center on Danny Reagan and his son, Sean.

While Donnie Wahlberg will reprise his role as Danny, Mika Amonsen will take over the role of Sean, replacing Andrew Terraciano, who played the character for 14 years.

So, who is Terraciano, and why is Sean being recast? Read on to find out.

While the reason behind the recast hasn’t been revealed, it’s worth noting that Sean was still in high school during the Blue Bloods finale.

The spinoff will likely feature a time jump, so Sean will be aged up and portrayed as a patrolman for the Boston Police Department.

This time, he’ll be committed to carrying on his family’s legacy—but he’s about to do it on his own terms.

Amonsen has already impressed fans with his guest roles on Suits and Reacher, making him the perfect fit to be the new Sean in Boston Blue.

Did Andrew Terraciano Say Goodbye to His Character After Blue Bloods Ended?

Terraciano said goodbye to his character as Sean when Blue Bloods Season 14’s filming wrapped up in June 2024.

“It feels like, after 15 years, 'family' isn’t a big enough word for all of the people at Blue Bloods that have changed me, and helped me, and grown with me,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.

The 22-year-old actor expressed his gratitude to everyone “guided” and “provided” him wisdom and lessons on the show—whether it was life lessons or inside jokes.

“Run fast, laugh hard, be kind,” he continued.

As he said goodbye to the long-running series’ cast and crew, he also bid farewell to his character.

“Sean Reagan, I let you go,” he ended his note.

As of this writing, Terraciano has yet to release a statement about Boston Blue’s recast.

Though there’s no word yet on which Blue Bloods characters will return in Boston Blue, one of the most beloved figures fans hope to see is Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan, Danny’s father in the original series.

Of course, Wahlberg is well aware of this. But when asked about the veteran actor’s possible appearance, he only offered some clues.

“New York and Boston are really close,” he told Parade, referring to the two shows’ premises. “Blue Bloods is important to the audience, it’s important to me.”

While Wahlberg neither confirmed nor denied whether Selleck will appear in the spinoff, he noted that Danny would be “a fish out of water” in this new world, though he would never forget where he came from or the legacy of Blue Bloods.

Meanwhile, Sonequa Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, and Ernie Hudson have all been confirmed to join the spinoff’s cast.

Written by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, Boston Blue will follow Sean as he relocates to Boston to start a new chapter of his life as a patrolman for the Boston Police Department. Determined to carry on his family’s legacy in his own way, Sean steps outside his hometown—a move that will give him and his father “a chance to reconnect on a deeper level.”

As of now, Boston Blue has no official release date.
