Blue Beetle Movie's First Trailer Finally Arrives

Warner Bros. has finally released the first trailer for the upcoming DCEU film Blue Beetle, which gave us our first look at Jaime Reyes' introduction to the franchise as he takes the mantle of the titular role. This is also historic as it will be the first Latino-led superhero film in the DC franchise.

As expected, Xolo Maridueña's Jaime Reyes is the centerpiece of the trailer as they teased how he was able to nab the Scarab and become the titular hero. We also caught a glimpse at his family's involvement in his newfound life as a superhero and how he is being hunted thanks to his new role.

While the film is set in the current iteration of the DCEU, the trailer didn't have a lot of references to the other properties in the franchise, save for the Batman joke at the very end. It also revealed the first look at Susan Sarandon's villainous character, who is eager to have the Scarab all by herself.

While the trailer didn't give out a lot of the plot details, it is a great introduction of the character to the audience since he is not as well-known as the DC heroes and it gives us an idea of the tone and style of the film. There are also a lot of humorous moments, which have been a staple of most comic book films.

The film's synopsis reads: "Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, and Harvey Guillén. Angel Manuel Soto directed the film from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
