Blue Beetle Director Confirms Upcoming DC Movie is Still Set for Release

With the surprise cancellation of Batgirl last month, there have been questions about whether Warner Bros. will move forward with the other DC feature projects that are in the works. Right now, it seems that most of them are safe since we haven't heard any cancellation updates regarding them and now it looks like one of the projects is now confirmed to still be on its way.

In an interview with NPR, Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto confirmed that Blue Beetle is still set for release in theaters next year. While he admitted that he was concerned at first after hearing what happened in the Batgirl movie, he eventually heard an assurance from the studio that it still has their support.

"I'm not going to lie. There was concern, anger, fear at first," Soto said. "They told me not to worry, the film has their full support."

In the same interview, star Xolo Maridueña, who is playing that Jaime Reyes iteration of the character, discussed his turn as the titular hero in which he described him as a "fusion of Green Lantern and Iron Man."

"He's kind of like a fusion of Green Lantern and Iron Man. He has a scarab from outer space that is attached to his body called Khaji da," Maridueña said. "He's a first-generation Mexican-American kid from El Paso, Texas."

It is great to hear that Blue Beetle is still set for release since some fans have been nervous and wondering about its fate as a result of what happened to Batgirl. This is a sign that the studio has high confidence in the film. It is also worth nothing that it also started as an HBO Max project before it became a theatrical film now.
