Blue Beetle Actor Almost Joined the Cast of Black Panther 2

Veteran actor Raoul Max Trujillo is set to make his DCEU debut in the upcoming film Blue Beetle which is set to arrive in theaters in just a few weeks. He will play the villain Carapax the Indestructible Man, one of the antagonists that the titular hero will face.

This is certainly an exciting opportunity for Trujillo since it would mark his biggest film role since playing Zero Wolf in 2006's Apocalypto and it's another showcase for him to a wider audience given the accessibility of a superhero movie.

It also helps that the film will be the first Latino-led DC superhero movie which is a groundbreaking moment for Latinx representation in Hollywood and there is hope that it will be more successful than the other DCEU films this year.

Before joining the DCEU, as it turns out, Trujillo was supposed to be part of a major MCU film.

In an interview with Heroic Hollywood, Trujillo revealed that he was almost cast in the MCU film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, due to budget constraints, his potential involvement didn't end up happening.

"I mean, that’s really funny that you mention that because I was actually offered a role in [Wakanda Forever]. But because of budgetary constraints and the fact that the script was being developed and changed and...," he explained.

"Did you see the film?… I saw it. I loved it. I thought it was amazing. And I was like ‘Damn! I wish I had done that!’, but I also understood that the character was only being introduced at the very sort of end of the film."

Despite already being part of the DC franchise, the actor is still open to joining the MCU in the future if ever he gets the opportunity although he is unsure if it could actually happen since he is already tied into DC.

"If there’s a future and they want to approach me again… I’m not sure how it would work with DC and Marvel being on opposite sides, or if I’d even be allowed to because right now DC and Warner Bros. kind of own me. But I love that, I thought what they did was amazing," Trujillo said.

"And I personally would love to do it, but I’m not going to give up my loyalty at this point to Warner Bros. and DC because they took a chance to bring an old guy like me into this supervillain role, and for that, I’m really grateful. But, yes, I’m open to any of that stuff because it’s one of my favorite genres and I just love it."

This is certainly interesting information to hear since Trujillo's comic book movie journey would have been different if he joined the MCU instead and perhaps he wouldn't have been cast to play Carapax in Blue Beetle.

At the end of the day, things worked out for the best for Trujillo since his role in the DCEU sounds more prominent than what was offered to him in Wakanda Forever and there is a chance that he could segue into the new DCU if his character survives the events of the film.
