Black Widow Star Scarlett Johansson Addresses Nat's Sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame

Most fans are probably still a little depressed over the unexpected death of Natasha Romanoff in Avengers: Endgame. Luckily, Scarlett Johansson may have the best explanation that could help people move on from this tragedy ahead of the Black Widow premiere.

Johansson spoke to Total Film magazine about her new Marvel Cinematic Universe flick but she also looked back at Endgame and offered her thoughts on why Nat made the decision to sacrifice herself in the film (via Comic Book Movie).

"I love Natasha," Johansson said. "She's had an incredible 10-year journey, and I felt that she was finally able to make an active choice. It seemed very in-character, that ultimate sacrifice that she makes. She's made peace with that, and, in some ways, has known that's her destiny all along, in a weird poetic way."

Wait, what? Johansson continued by pointing out that Nat's storyline had always hinted at the character ultimately choosing death just to save others.

"When you look back on the films, that's in there. All the films have led her to that choice – or to be able to make that choice; or for it to be a choice," she concluded.

Of course, Nat's sacrifice was all too important considering that it helped the Avengers procure the Soul Stone. On the other hand, fans argued that the character deserved better. Nevertheless, we can still see Nat in action one last time in Black Widow.

Johansson will reprise her role as the Avenger in Black Widow, which is currently scheduled for release on November 6.
