Black Widow Star Rachel Weisz Shares New Details About Her Mysterious Character Melina

We already know a little bit about most of the new characters that will be introduced in Black Widow but it seems like information about Rachel Weisz's mysterious Melina Vostokoff is still pretty rare. Luckily, Weisz herself has shared some cool details about the spy who works with Natasha Romanoff in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.

Weisz was interviewed for the Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book by Titan Books and the star of The Favourite actually revealed a lot about Melina.

"She was trained in the Red Room," Weisz said. "I'm a Widow. I was taken away from my parents when I was small and given over to Dreykov, who runs the Red Room. He is the mastermind behind the training that all the Widows go through. I think for some time he's been like a father figure. I'm definitely brainwashed by him. I believe in his cause, and I believe that he means well and is doing good in the world."

Interestingly, Weisz also shared how Black Widow will open with a surprising flashback to the time when Melina, Natasha, Yelena Belova, and Alexei Shoskatov were pretending to be a happy family.

"At the start of the film, I'm a Russian spy posing as an American mom. I'm pretending that little Natasha and little Yelena are my children and that Alexei is my husband," she said.

Well, that pretty much reveals why Nat considers these people her family. Needless to say, we can't wait to find out what broke it up in the first place.

Black Widow is scheduled for release on May 7, 2021.
