Marvel Studios is no stranger to tweaking the origin stories of their characters and more often than not, the studio's creative decisions garner a mixed reception from the fandom. Surprisingly, the route the studio is taking with Namor the Sub-Mariner, who's being given a completely different backstory in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has gained a generally favorable reaction from the Marvel Cinematic Universe community.

Actor Tenoch Huerta is gearing up for his huge MCU break as Black Panther 2's main antagonist but it turns out that he wasn't initially qualified for the part. In an interview with Gizmodo, the Mexican start admitted that he didn't know how to swim prior to Wakanda Forever's filming and had to lie about his expertise underwater.

Of course, considering the character is known as the ruler of an underwater civilization, most of his scenes would naturally be filmed underwater despite the presence of CGI. When asked about his swimming skills, Huerta said: "I replied that I had never drowned and went back to my managers. We just say yes and then go see what's up."

Thankfully, Huerta took up swimming lessons to prepare himself for the part and we can safely say that his eight-month training wasn't put to waste. Now, it'll be interesting to see what Namor brings to the table especially considering fans have been clamoring to see him in the MCU for years.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits cinemas on November 11, 2022.
