Birds of Prey Is Going To Be A Girl Gang Movie

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) isn't going to be a traditional team-up movie.

Speaking in an interview with Total Film (via Games Radar), Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson has decided to talk about her latest project, revealing that the upcoming DC movie actually won't feature a traditional team-up between the characters.

Birds of Prey is a DC comic book romp that's going to give Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) a new set of friends, pairing the Batman villain with characters like Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Gotham police detective Renne Montoya (Rosie Perez).

According to Hodson, Birds of Prey was always supposed to be a "girl gang" movie.

"Margot knew she wanted to tell a ‘Harley Quinn plus girls' story. That was kind of where she began with it. She knew she wanted a girl gang. She wanted Harley to have friends," the screenwriter told the publication.

Birds of Prey was never meant to be a tradition film. But then again, Harley has never been a conventional character. The film's unique atmosphere can be felt in its marketing, from the light fashion magazine-esque teaser trailer to the colorful Birds of Prey poser which shows off the film's weirdness with all of its characters flying around Harley's head.

It's definitely going to be exciting seeing Harley out on the town with her girlfriends now that Joker's (Jared Leto) out of her life. We can't wait to see just how weird Birds of Prey is going to be.

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to premiere on February 7, 2020.
