DC fans expected Robert Pattinson's Batman to appear in the upcoming series, however, The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc said that the show wouldn't need the Dark Knight hero "to get the same punch" in the story.

At the time, the reason leaned on how different Oswald Cobblepot's journey was going to be, compared to Bruce Wayne's while residing in Gotham City.

In a new interview, The Batman director Matt Reeves unveiled the truth behind Batman's supposed cameo in The Penguin and why they decided to take the opposite direction.

"I'm a point-of-view filmmaker. When I'm doing a Batman story, Batman and Bruce is going to be the main point of view," Reeves recently explained, "To explore the rogues gallery, they could never get the real estate we can do in a series."

Reeves added that even though the story of The Penguin begins because of Riddler, "The Riddler doesn't appear and Batman doesn't appear," expanding further that, "So Batman is in this show only as a sense that he's a presence."

Considering the vague statement, Reeves clarified by saying, "Rob[ert Pattinson] is not going to be in the show. I'd rather take the Band-Aid off now."

The director also said The Penguin should get his spotlight on his own show, "We did talk about all that, but we felt the best way to do this was to go on a grand exploration of a guy grabbing for power in this moment."

Set in the aftermath of the flood in Gotham, caused by The Riddler, Colin Farrell's Oz Cobb takes the stage to rise to his own power.

The Penguin explores how Oz Cobb came to be amid the city's criminal underworld, all the while having to contend with Cristin Milioti's Sofia Falcone, who had just been released from the Arkham State Hospital.
