Batman Returns Star Danny DeVito Expresses Interest to Play Penguin Again

Danny DeVito's turn as The Penguin in Batman Returns has become iconic and high-regarded even up to this day. His take on the iconic Batman villain was maniacal and ruthless, cementing it as probably the definitive version of the Penguin on-screen. Now that the DCEU is venturing into the multiverse with The Flash and Michael Keaton will return as Batman, does it mean that we might see DeVito play the Penguin again too?

Speaking with Forbes, DeVito expressed his interest in reprising the role of The Penguin, but there is one catch. He said, "I feel like it’s not out of the question that The Penguin will return someday, but this is all up to Tim, whether or not Tim wants to do this. I would say that could be in the cards because we ain’t dead yet (laughs). We could do a continuation of what we had in the past because that was truly a brilliant movie. They afforded me that opportunity and I feel very grateful and would I like to revisit it? Why not! It was a really great moment in time for me."

As the actor said, he would only be on-board to play The Penguin again if Batman Returns director Tim Burton is involved. Fans will definitely be delighted if DeVito gets to play the Penguin again. With Keaton returning soon and the multiverse being introduced in the DCEU, there is a way for him to return in some capacity even though he died at the end of Batman Returns.

The actor recently worked with DC as he wrote a story for the comic Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant #1 titled "Bird Cat Love" which involves the surprising romantic pairing between the Penguin and Catwoman (which are also both the villains of Batman Returns).

If the villains from the past Spider-Man films will return in No Way Home, DeVito returning as the Penguin is not out of the realm of possibility. If it ever does happen, fans will certainly welcome it. Even though he doesn't get to reprise the role ever again, we will still get to see the Penguin on the big screen soon on the upcoming The Batman now played by Colin Farrell.
