Batman: Caped Crusader Animated Series Officially Coming to Amazon

One of the DC animated projects that have been in the works for a while is the Batman: Caped Crusader series. A lot of fans have been looking forward to it since it harkens back to Batman: The Animated Series in the '90s and The Batman director Matt Reeves is involved as one of the executive producers.

However, a couple of months ago, the project experienced a major setback as HBO Max decided to shelve the series and shop it to other streamers instead. This was part of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav's efforts to monetize the studio's content by selling to third-party buyers.

Now, it looks like the series has found a new home as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Batman: Caped Crusader is now officially coming to Amazon with a two-season order. Netflix, Apple, and Hulu were also in contention to rescue the series before Amazon eventually took it.

Reeves, J.J. Abrams, and Bruce Timm serve as some of the executive producers of the series. So far, both Amazon and Warner Bros. remain mum about the news as formal deals have not been closed yet.

"We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City," Abrams and Reeves said in a statement back when the project was announced.

"The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world."

The project's move to Amazon also comes as DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DC franchise across all mediums including animation. Caped Crusader is not part of the DCU franchise slate and it is likely that it will be labeled as "Elseworlds" since it is outside the purview of Gunn and Safran.

It is certainly exciting to hear that the series has found a new home since fans will still get a chance to see it at some point in the future. In addition, it is also guaranteed to have a second season so we no longer have to wait and speculate whether it will get another installment after the first season.
