Barry Manilow Makes His Way to Broadway with Harmony

Manilow's much-awaited musical Harmony, co-written with Bruce Sussman, is now on its way to Broadway after over 20 years in the works.

"Standing in front of the theater is really surreal," he told Page Six at the Ethel Barrymore Theater, where the show will open in October. "It's really happening!"

First staged at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego in 1997, it has been in production over the years in Atlanta and Los Angeles.

Thankfully, after receiving critical acclaim during its run at the Museum of Jewish Heritage — A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York, the producers can finally bring it to Broadway.

"We held on because the piece is so important to us," Sussman added. "We thought that it was a story that needed to be told and wanted to tell it."

Harmony is based on a true story of the renowned German singing group, the Comedian Harmonists, from the 1920s and 1930s.

The sextet, comprised of three Jews and a husband of a Jewish woman, was separated amid the rise of Nazism.
