As much as Star Wars fans are hoping the story of their favorite outcast of a team doesn't end yet, The Bad Batch season 3 ends with a bang. Here's why the resurrection of Emperor Palpatine took so long in The Bad Batch.

CONTENT SPOILERS: This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 finale, so proceed with caution.

The Bad Batch Season 3 Finale Shows How Project Necromancer was Halted

The Empire's main goal had always been capturing Omega in pursuit of Emperor Palpatine's Project Necromancer.

The project was intended to resurrect Emperor Palpatine to his former glory, which would explain how he returned in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

While they could easily create Palpatine's clones, the Emperor was seeking a larger experiment in mind: Project Necromancer existed to build something much stronger and better than the original Palpatine in the franchise.

Since clones cannot cheat death without being injected with the formula, the Emperor's clone would require a higher M-count than Palpatine's, and the only element that could provide him with just that comes from none other than Omega.

However, thanks to the Bad Batch, Project Necromancer failed in season 3. This begs the question, how was Palpatine's search for immortality revived in The Mandalorian season 3?

The Journey Behind Emperor Palpatine's Resurrection Doesn't Stop Here

Despite Palpatine's Project Necromancer failing at the end of The Bad Batch season 3, his plan revved back in The Mandalorian season 3 and the Emperor's inevitable resurrection in the sequel trilogy.

Take note that both The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian contain the idea of utilizing and building Force-sensitive clones, which aligns perfectly with the Star Wars universe timeline.

However, even so, Palpatine was likely not the one handling the project decades after he had abandoned it. Instead, this poses the possibility that someone else succeeded in bringing Emperor Palpatine back to life.

Even though Palpatine met his demise in one way or another, his past research on gaining immortality remains in historical records, allowing any of the Imperials to take over his project themselves.
